February 3, 2017

Dear Cougar Parents and Players:

We as a coaching staff are very excited about this upcoming season.  We are looking forward to competing for the city championship this year, having finished 3rd overall last year. Parents and players we need your help and participation to make this goal a reality. School ends on May 19, 2017 and beginning May 29, 2017 we will start and have voluntary football practice and conditioning for our athletes that will take place at 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Mon. – Fri. until June 23. In order to participate in the voluntary and mandatory workouts, your student-athlete will have to have an up-to-date sports physical. We will focus our practices on conditioning first and getting them into shape, strengthening their core areas, chest, and then, legs.  We will also be teaching the athletes offensive and defensive formations, plays, and working on their blocking and proper tackling techniques.  These voluntary practices are essential and important for all returning players, new players coming into the program, and in-coming 6th graders because it will give them an opportunity to get to know the coaches, build strong relationships with their peers/teammates, and learn our core values as a team and our offensive and defensive systems.

We will have a mandatory parent and player meeting on June 22, 2017 – from 5:45 – 7:00 p.m. in the gym at Crawford to discuss all football matters, team and player rules, practice schedule, equipment needed, and to answer all the parents and players questions.  Due to the fact that all players need sports physicals before they can participate in voluntary workouts and regular practice, feel free to call me at 859-948-5268 or email me at (demetrit.rushin@fayette.kyschools.us) or Coach Johnson at 859-285-6036 or email him at (renardo.johnson@fayette.kyschools.us) to pick the sports physical forms and insurance forms prior to June 1st.  Our Insurance fee is $25.  This fee is very fair and set at a reasonable price. Purchasing this insurance will cover your student-athletes medical bills in the event he is hurt or injured.  Your insurance will not have to be used. These are one time fees, that we hope to get paid by the 15th of July. Make your check for $25 dollars payable to Crawford Middle School Football. The insurance fee once paid is not refundable. It can be used also for non-sport related injuries that could occur during school in gym.  As a means to fundraise, we ask all parents to make a $25 donation toward our end of year banquet celebration to purchase medals, certificates, trophies, decorations, programs, food, and drinks.  This one time donation helps us celebrate our players and parents with class and honor. If your son quits or is dismissed from the football team for disciplinary reasons, the donation is not refundable.  Before there is an issue, I am always open to discuss the pending matter until a solution is found.

The Dead Period will begin on June 25 and last until July 9th midnight.  .  This is the time period allotted for vacation time and I and no other coach is permitted to contact our student-athletes.  On July 10th we will resume voluntary workouts until Mandatory Football practice, which begins officially on July 15th.  We will keep the practice times the same 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.  We ask that parents have their student-athletes here by 5:15 p.m. so the players can put on their equipment and get ready for practice.  We will be providing water at both the voluntary and mandatory practices.  We do encourage you to have your children bring a drinking jug as well. Once again, we are excited and can’t wait to begin our quest to be crowned champions.  I will see you on June 22, if an emergency occurs or scheduled vacation has already been booked and you cannot be in attendance, schedule a meeting with me prior to June 23rd and we can get you squared away with everything you need. Practice gear – green, black, or grey t-shirt only, same color shorts, and cleats.  Please buy black game cleats only.  Your cleats can contain our uniform colors which is dark green, black, and white.  We believe in uniformity.

Sincerely,

Demetrit Rushin, Ed. D.
